Apple Introduces New iPod touch
SAN FRANCISCO—September 1, 2010—Apple® today announced the new iPod touch®, packed with incredible new features including Apple’s stunning Retina™ display, FaceTime® video calling, HD video recording, Apple’s A4 chip, 3-axis gyro, iOS 4.1 and Game Center—all combined in the thinnest and lightest iPod touch ever. The new iPod touch features up to 40 hours of music playback and seven hours of video playback on a single battery charge.*

“We’ve put our most advanced technology inside the new iPod touch,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Whether you’re listening to music, playing games, making FaceTime video calls, browsing the web, capturing HD video or watching TV shows and movies, the new iPod touch with its Retina display, A4 chip and 3-axis gyro is more fun than ever.”

Apple’s stunning Retina display makes everything on iPod touch look even more incredible, whether playing games, watching video, browsing the web or flicking through photos. The Retina display has 960 x 640 pixels—four times as many pixels than before. The resulting 326 pixels per inch is so dense that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels when iPod touch is held at a normal distance, making text, images and video look sharper, smoother and more realistic.

With the new front-facing camera and mic, iPod touch users can make FaceTime video calls over Wi-Fi. With just one tap of the new FaceTime app, iPod touch users can call other new iPod touch or iPhone® 4 users** to easily see what their friends are up to, share important moments like the first day of school and even show others what they are seeing by easily switching to the rear-facing camera.

The rear-facing camera on iPod touch is perfect for HD video recording. Users can easily capture HD video wherever they are and share it via email, MobileMe™ and YouTube. With the iMovie® app, users can combine movie clips, add dynamic transitions and themes and include photos and music right on their iPod touch. Users can buy and download the app for just $4.99 through the App Store℠ right on their iPod touch.

Apple’s A4 chip provides iPod touch users with exceptional processor and graphics performance along with long battery life. This remarkably fast and power-efficient chip, along with the Retina display and 3-axis gyro, makes games on iPod touch the best they’ve ever been on any mobile device.

iPod touch is the world’s most popular portable game player. Now with Game Center, iPod touch users can challenge and play friends or be matched automatically with new opponents. Game Center lets iPod touch users showcase their scores and achievements and discover new games their friends are playing. With the App Store on iPod touch, users have access to the world’s largest catalog of apps with over 250,000 apps, including over 65,000 game and entertainment titles to choose from.

Music and entertainment lovers can now easily access iTunes® Ping directly from their new iPod touch. iTunes Ping lets you follow your favorite artists and friends to discover the music they’re talking about, listening to and downloading. iPod touch users also have the entire iTunes Store® at their fingertips, giving them instant access to the world’s largest catalog of music, TV shows and movies.

The new iPod touch comes with iOS 4.1, the newest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system. iOS 4.1 enables new features like FaceTime video calling, multitasking, folders and Game Center.

iPod is the world’s most popular family of digital music players with over a quarter billion sold. Apple’s new holiday lineup includes a brand new iPod shuffle® for just $49; the amazing new iPod nano® with Multi-Touch™ starting at just $149; the incredible new iPod touch with Retina display, Apple’s A4 chip, FaceTime, HD video recording and Game Center starting at just $229; and the iPod classic® in a 160GB model for $249.

Pricing & Availability
The new iPod touch will be available next week for a suggested price of $229 (US) for the 8GB model, $299 (US) for the 32GB model and $399 (US) for the 64GB model through the Apple Store® (www.apple.com), Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. iPod touch requires a Mac® with a USB 2.0 port, Mac OS® X v10.5.8 or later and iTunes 10 or later; or a Windows PC with a USB 2.0 port and Windows Vista or Windows XP Home or Professional (Service Pack 3) or later and iTunes 10 or later. Existing second and third generation iPod touch users can update to iOS 4.1 free of charge on September 8 to enjoy new features including Game Center.

Apple Reinvents iPod nano With Multi-Touch Interface

SAN FRANCISCO—September 1, 2010—Apple® today unveiled a completely redesigned iPod nano® featuring Apple’s Multi-Touch™ interface that lets users navigate their music collection by simply tapping or swiping a finger on the display. The new iPod nano features Genius Mixes, the ability to create and edit playlists, a built-in FM radio with live pause and up to 24 hours of music playback on a single battery charge.*

“This is the biggest reinvention of the iPod nano since its debut in 2005, and we think users are going to love it,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Replacing the click wheel with our Multi-Touch interface has enabled us to shrink the iPod nano into an amazingly small design that is instantly wearable with its built-in clip.”

Users can also customize their Home screen by simply dragging icons from other screens onto the Home screen.

iPod nano also features Shake® to Shuffle™, giving music lovers the ability to shake their iPod nano to shuffle to a new song in their music library. With its built-in FM radio, iPod nano lets you listen to your favorite radio stations, and live pause lets you pause and resume playing your favorite FM radio shows without missing a beat.

With an amazing new design that is nearly half the size and weight of its predecessor, the new ultra-portable iPod nano is a natural workout companion. Clip iPod nano onto your workout clothing, touch your music and start your workout. iPod nano features a built-in pedometer that makes it easy to track your steps and also supports Nike + iPod®, giving users the ability to track runs and workouts.

The Magic Trackpad can be configured to support single button or two button commands and supports tap-to-click as well as a physical click. Magic Trackpad is available separately for $69.

Continuing Apple’s commitment to the environment, Apple’s desktop lineup is a leader in green design. The Mac Pro meets stringent Energy Star 5.0 requirements and achieves EPEAT Gold status.*** The Mac Pro enclosure is made of highly recyclable aluminum and the interior is designed to be more material-efficient. Apple Presents iPhone 4

SAN FRANCISCO—June 7, 2010—Apple® today presented the new iPhone® 4 featuring FaceTime, which makes the dream of video calling a reality, and Apple’s stunning new Retina display, the highest resolution display ever built into a phone, resulting in super crisp text, images and video. In addition, iPhone 4 features a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, HD video recording, Apple’s A4 processor, a 3-axis gyro and up to 40 percent longer talk time—in a beautiful all-new design of glass and stainless steel that is the thinnest smartphone in the world. iPhone 4 comes with iOS 4, the newest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, which includes over 100 new features and 1500 new APIs for developers. iOS 4 features Multitasking, Folders, enhanced Mail, deeper Enterprise support and Apple’s new iAd mobile advertising platform. iPhone 4 will be available in the US, UK, France, Germany and Japan on June 24, starting in the US at just $199 for qualified buyers with a two year contract.*

“iPhone 4 is the biggest leap since the original iPhone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “FaceTime video calling sets a new standard for mobile communication, and our new Retina display is the highest resolution display ever in a phone, with text looking like it does on a fine printed page. We have been dreaming about both of these breakthroughs for decades.”

FaceTime is as mobile as your phone, so you can see your loved ones and friends anywhere there is Wi-Fi. Using FaceTime is as easy as making a regular voice call, with no set-up required, and you can instantly switch to the rear camera to show others what you are seeing with just a tap.

Apple’s stunning 3.5 inch Retina display has 960 x 640 pixels—four times as many pixels as the iPhone 3GS and 78 percent of the pixels on an iPad™. The resulting 326 pixels per inch is so dense that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels when the phone is held at a normal distance, making text, images and video look sharper, smoother and more realistic than ever before on an electronic display.

iPhone 4 is the thinnest smartphone ever—9.3 millimeters—with an all-new design and build quality like no other mobile device. The front and back are made of aluminosilcate glass, chemically strengthened to be 30 times harder than plastic, more scratch resistant and more durable than ever. The front and back glass have an oil-resistant coating that helps keep it clean, and encircling iPhone 4 is a highly finished stainless steel band made of a custom alloy that is forged to be five times stronger than standard steel.

iPhone 4 features a new 5 megapixel autofocus camera with a 5x digital zoom, a backside illuminated sensor and built-in LED flash that allows you to take amazing pictures even in low light and dark environments. iPhone 4 lets you record and edit incredible HD video and the popular tap to focus feature now works while recording video. You can use the iPhone 4‘s LED flash for both still photography and video recording. The new iMovie® app for iPhone lets you combine movie clips, add dynamic transitions and themes and include photos and music, and users can buy it for just $4.99 through the App Store right on their phone.

iPhone 4 is the best mobile device ever for games and entertainment, with access to tens of thousands of games and entertainment apps on the revolutionary App Store. Every iPhone 4 has a built-in 3-axis gyro that when combined with the accelerometer provides 6-axis motion sensing such as up and down, side to side, forward and backward and pitch and roll, making it perfect for gaming. Developers can access the gyro using the new CoreMotion API to make games and other apps that go well beyond what other mobile devices offer.

iPhone 4 comes with iOS 4, the newest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system. With over 100 new features, it includes Multitasking, Folders, enhanced Mail, deeper Enterprise support and Apple’s new iAd mobile advertising platform. With Multitasking, users can now instantly switch between any of their apps while preserving battery life. With Folders, users can easily organize their apps into collections by simply dragging one app on top of another. A folder is automatically created and named based on the category of apps selected. Users can change the name of any folder at any time. In addition, users can now customize their lock and home screens with an array of supplied wallpapers or with any of the photos on their phone.

The new iBooks® app will be available for iPhone 4 as a free download from the App Store and includes Apple’s new iBookstore, the best way to browse, buy and read books on a mobile product. The iBooks app will sync your current place in a book, along with any bookmarks, highlights and notes you have created, between copies of the same book on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch®. iBooks users can also now read and store PDFs right in iBooks. There are now over 60,000 books available in the iBookstore, and users have downloaded over five million books in the first two months.

More than five billion apps have been downloaded from the revolutionary App Store and more than 225,000 apps are available to consumers in 90 countries. Almost 100 million iPhone and iPod touch users around the world can choose from an incredible range of apps in 20 categories, including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel.

iPhone 4 delivers an amazing seven hours of talk time on 3G networks, up to 10 hours of web browsing on Wi-Fi and up to six hours on 3G, and up to 10 hours of video playback and up to 40 hours of audio playback.** iPhone 4 is powered by Apple’s new A4 processor that provides exceptional processor and graphic performance along with long battery life. iPhone 4 features a second microphone and advanced software to suppress unwanted background noise for improved call quality when in loud places. iPhone 4 also offers 802.11n Wi-Fi networking and adds quad-band HSUPA to provide 7.2Mbps downlink and 5.8Mbps uplink capability.***

Pricing & Availability
iPhone 4 comes in either black or white and will be available in the US for a suggested retail price of $199 (US) for the 16GB model and $299 (US) for the 32GB model in both Apple and AT&T’s retail and online stores, Best Buy and Wal-Mart stores. iPhone 4 will be available in the US, France, Germany, Japan and the UK on June 24 and customers can pre-order their iPhone 4 beginning Tuesday, June 15 from the Apple Online Store or reserve an iPhone 4 to pick up at an Apple Retail Store. iMovie for iPhone will be available on the App Store for just $4.99 (US).

Also on June 24, a new iPhone 3GS 8GB model will be available for just $99 (US). iOS 4 software will be available on June 21 as a free software update via iTunes® 9.2 or later for iPhone and iPod touch customers.****

iPhone 4 will roll out worldwide to 88 countries by the end of September. iPhone 4 will be available by the end of July in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

*Qualified customers only. Requires a new two year AT&T rate plan, sold separately.

**Battery life depends on device settings, usage and other factors. Actual results vary.

***Speed is dependent on cellular network capability.

****iOS 4 is compatible with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, second and third generation iPod touch (late 2009 models with 32GB or 64GB). Some features may not be available on all products. For example, Multitasking requires iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 or third generation iPod touch (late 2009 models with 32GB or 64GB).

Apple ignited the personal computer revolution with the Apple II, then reinvented the personal computer with the Macintosh. Apple continues to lead the industry with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system, and iLife, iWork and professional applications. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store, has reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and has recently introduced its magical iPad which is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices.

BoxTone builds and sells commercial software for Mobile Service Management.

We bring together the best of systems management and latest advancements in mobility into a patented solution.

Ok, So what does our software do?

Think of BoxTone as kind of special mobile user cardiac monitor software installed in your data center.

The monitor is not for you the person, rather it’s for that mobile device like your iPhone and iPad that you are carrying around.

This BoxTone software monitor continuously watches the real-time health and performance of your mobile device, your mobile applications and your mobile services.

Because we’re watching your health and performance in real time, all the time, we can proactively warn your IT team when performance degrades or incidents happen.

They can quickly take action to prevent the issue from impacting you, or if it does to repair it quickly.

BoxTone’s secret sauce can detect things like emerging ‘brown outs’ before they happen so they don’t turn into hard core ‘black outs.’

And along the way we also help your IT and service provider teams continuously tune the backend systems, deploy and upgrade systems and all the other things needed to manage the full lifecycle of your corporate mobile experience.

So when performance matters, IT turns to BoxTone to ensure a trouble-free mobile environment.

Apple Sells One Million iPads

CUPERTINO, California—May 3, 2010—Apple® today announced that it sold its one millionth iPad™ on Friday, just 28 days after its introduction on April 3. iPad users have already downloaded over 12 million apps from the App Store and over 1.5 million ebooks from the new iBookstore.

“One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”

iPad allows users to connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before. Users can browse the web, read and send email, enjoy and share photos, watch HD videos, listen to music, play games, read ebooks and much more, all using iPad’s revolutionary Multi-Touch™ user interface. iPad is 0.5 inches thin and weighs just 1.5 pounds—thinner and lighter than any laptop or netbook—and delivers up to 10 hours of battery life.*

Developers have created over 5,000 exciting new apps for iPad that take advantage of its Multi-Touch user interface, large screen and high-quality graphics. iPad will run almost all of the more than 200,000 apps on the App Store, including apps already purchased for your iPhone® or iPod touch®.

*Battery life depends on device settings, usage and other factors. Actual results vary.

Apple ignited the personal computer revolution with the Apple II, then reinvented the personal computer with the Macintosh. Apple continues to lead the industry with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system, and iLife, iWork and professional applications. iNSpired Innovation: The First Apple

The Apple I, one of the world's first personal computers, was first demonstrated at the Homebrew Computer Club in April 1976 in Palo Alto, CA. They were designed and hand-built by Steve Wozniak with Steve Jobs as friend and partner to sell them. The Apple I was the first computer delivered as a complete fully-assembled and ready to go motherboard and memory. It then only required users to add a case, power supply, ASCII keyboard and composite video display to connect a television set as monitor. An optional board for cassette interface for storage was later added. The Apple I, a substantial success as first product that caught the eye of many early adopters in the industry, was commercially available for about 1 year until the Apple II was launched in 1977.

iNSpired Innovation: The World's first Active Matrix display in Apple's first portable computer

Apple's first attempt at portable computing with completely self-contained unit. Arguably the most prominent innovation was the industry's first active matrix black and white LCD screen on hinged cover over keyboard, plus a built-in trackball instead of a mouse. The Macintosh Portable weighed in at 16-pounds (largely due to large heavy lead-acid batteries) and focused on extended length power by using low-power Motorola 68HC000 and expensive SRAM to minimize power use and 'instant on' low power sleep mode. Apple later added back-lit active-matrix to help with low-light visibility. Ultimately usability issues and high price limited the adoption of the Macintosh Portable.

TechSpecs:
CPU: 16MHz Motorola 68HC000 processor
Memory: 1MB RAM (expandable to 5MB or 9MB)
Screen: Active matrix flat-panel LCD
Storage: 1.44MB microfloppy
Connectivity: SCSI Connector, 3rd party network connectors
Wireless: N/A

TriviaCorner:

Q: What part of the keyboard/trackball area was exchangeable for another component?
A: A numeric keypad could be installed in the spot that the trackball was located.

Q: What made the screen of the Macintosh Portable so much more superior to that of other portables of the time?
A: It used an active matrix LCD instead of the less expensive passive-matrix display.

iNSpired Innovation: The world's first PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) that created a new industry category

The NewtonOS Platform and MessagePad were Apple's first personal digital assistant (PDA) software/hardware combination. Apple first coined the term 'personal digital assistant' (PDA) and invented what became the category name. The Newton MessagePad 100 first shipped in 1992 with handwriting recognition followed by the MessagePad 120 with Newton OS 2.0 and an external keyboard plus rotating screen orientation.

The original handwriting recognition engine was called Calligrapher (licensed from a Russian company called Paragraph International) with a sophisticated approach that attempted to learn the user's natural handwriting, using a database of known words to make guesses as to what the user was writing, and could interpret writing anywhere on the screen, whether hand-printed, in cursive, or a mix of the two. For editing text, Newton had a very intuitive system for handwritten editing, such as scratching out words to be deleted, circling text to be selected, or using written carets to mark inserts. Newton also offered a full QWERTY virtual keyboard. Newton devices could also accept free-hand "Sketches", "Shapes", and "Ink Text", much like a desktop computer graphics tablet, recognizing that the user was attempting to draw a circle, a line, a polygon, etc, and it would clean them up into perfect vector representations. The devices included data-sharing among PIM applications, upgrade slots, and flash storage for data integrity.

TechSpecs:
CPU: 20MHz ARM 610 RISC Processor, later 162 MHz StrongARM SA-110 RISC
Memory: Newton 100 Series: 4 MB ROM, 640k RAM, ATA-type flash memory (eg. CompactFlash); later Newton 2000 Series: 4MB/8MB ROM options with 4MB RAM and 4MB Flash memory
Screen: Internal 336 x 240 (B&W), later 480 x 320 greyscale (16 shades) w/ backlight
Storage: See above
Connectivity: Serial Port, proprietary NewtonInterConnect port, PC Card Expansion Slot such as for modem or ethernet, FaxModem added in 1993
Wireless: N/A

TriviaCorner:

Q: What was the codename for the original newton MessagePad?
A: The first code names were Junior, Wedge, Lindy, Gelato, Dante, Q.

Q: In addition to English, what language was supported on the MessagePad?
A: German

I remember I was about 12 when a friend got his first Apple IIe. We played LodeRunner and other games for hours. Then he got the Z80 card and we could type papers on it which was cool. Eventually we got our own Apple IIe for the family, but then I went to college. School had a deal on a Mac 512k... which by senior year I had replaced with Mac SE/30 powerhouse. Actually did a simulation on that which was easier to code and ran faster than mucking about with the unix machines in the lap. Then I didn't see a mac for years until I landed at a small company that welcomed any technology. I started with a Quadra 800, then later a PowerMac desktop, and finally my favorite and the envy of all my friends was my loaded T1. Today I live on my Macbook Air and my iPhone, full stop!

iNSpired Innovation: The First iMac with Return to All-in-One with Striking Translucent Case and Colors

The iMac G3 heralded the Return of Steve Jobs and the return to the all-in-one model of everything housed in a main case except mouse and keyboard. With the "I" standing for "internet," the iMac was a return to the all-in-one unit housing everything but keyboard and mouse. The "i" prefix would quickly become the standard for many Apple devices.

The most distinctive element of the iMac was the translucent egg-shaped case with colorfol array of choices including tangerine, grape, lime, blueberry, and strawberry.

Designed for simple and fast setup for the consumer market, this was the first Macintosh to sport a USB port for plug-and-play compatibility with 3rd party components and in fact it took only a few minutes to setup the iMac.

When your organization depends on high quality IT mobile services, your IT group will turn to an industry best practice called Mobile Service Management.

Mobile Service Management is how IT organizes itself, it's processes and tools in order to deliver the most reliable mobile capabilities and the best mobile end user experience possible with the resources and funding available.

Data center guys often call this highly reliable IT service 'Five Nines' or '99.999% reliability.' In fact, our goal at BoxTone is to help you and your IT organization deliver Five Nines for Mobility.

Now if you prefer a more academic definition, here you go:

- Mobile Service Management (MSM) is a proactive, customer-focused approach for continuously delivering mobile IT services at the high quality that mobile workers require, yet at the lowest reasonable cost and risk to the enterprise.

- Mobile Service Management is based on the industry best-practice called IT Service Management (ITSM) and a framework called IT Infrastructure Language (ITIL).

The first consumer widescreen laptop, the PowerBook G4 was clad in titanium skin and featured PowerPC G4 processor. The innovative design and materials were lighter than most laptops and the low power chips lasted much longer. Nicknamed the "Ti" books, Apple was again a master of 'must have' design.

In 2004 Apple launched the aluminum series (nicknamed AIBook) with larger 17" display (largest laptop screen in the world at the time) and the smallest Apple with the full-featured 12" notebook. The 17" model included fiber-optic back lit keyboard that eventually became standard on PowerBooks.
